Giant leap forward!!!!!

February 25, 2014

Well, it's been over four months since my last post. It's amazing how quickly our long dormant fears can come roaring back once provoked! I haven't been completely idle during this time. There have been a few nudges from the Universe that have kept me moving ever slowly toward my dream.

1. I started looking up some of the links on the sheet that I got from my voice teacher about the local theater groups. Yikes! One link was for some group in Massachusetts, one was no long viable and the other was for a theater that uses professional actors. Not a very encouraging start!

2. While I was home over the holidays, I drove past my high school, not even consciously thinking about the fact that it was the location where I made my decision to not pursue the theater. As I drove around the parking lot, it hit me that I was looking at the exact spot at which fear took over my choices.

3. In January, I helped my husband teach a women's self defense class at a local high school. We were supposed to be in one of the wrestling rooms. When we got there, the room was occupied so one of the coaches found us another room to use. It just so happened to be the theater room where they had a piano, risers and lots of play bills that were framed up on the walls.

Then just last week I took my biggest step of all. It didn't feel like it was related to this dream at first but now I see that it very much is.

I decided that I wanted to be a part of a flash mob. I love watching them on Youtube and Facebook. While watching one last week, I felt a determination inside me state "I want to be part of a flash mob!" I started telling everyone I interacted with that this was a new goal of mine. Within four days a friend of mine (thanks Kevin!) found one listed in Craig’s List. I jumped at the chance to sign up and only flinched a little when I learned that it is taking place on May 10th which is international belly dancing day. Uh, excuse me...... I have never tried belly dancing before but I have taken classes in tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop. How hard can it be? Well, I started learning the choreography last night and it is going to be a challenge. But, it is a great opportunity to be a part of a group of entertainers working toward the goal of giving a performance. Sound familiar? I figure if I can pull this off then learning lines for a play will be a piece of cake!

So, my progress continues, slowly but steadily toward getting up on stage to act. Who knows, maybe the play I finally find myself in will need a belly dancer!

If you have ever wanted to be part of a flash mob or if you have ever dreamed about learning how to belly dance, you can visit www.shimmymob.com to find out if a city near you is participating on May 10th!
