It's Not Stress that Kills Us

It's Not Stress that Kills Us

it's our reaction to it."              -Hans Selye

It's hard to believe that summer is already half over! I have actually seen school supplies showing up in stores. Before you know it, the holidays will be here. Even as I typed those few sentences, could you feel the stress about the second half of the year increasing? What about all those projects you wanted to get finished this summer? All those books you planned to read during the longer evenings? All the decluttering you intended to do, especially in the garage, during the warmer weather? The list is probably endless. I have always thought of stress as a bad thing. It can have terrible effects on our mental state and on our health. Recently I discovered a school of thought that highlights the good aspects of stress; the ways that it can actually help us. I'll be working on changing my perception of stress so that it can be an ally instead of an enemy.

Here's a great TED article about the topic.

Here is the question:

How do you currently view your stress?  How could your life change if you changed your perspective on it?
