The switch

January 11, 2011

It’s always an interesting realization to discover that something we originally had to do, has become something that we want to do.

I’ve been on a liver cleanse for the past week. The full length is supposed to be 14 days. I committed to it for 7 days. The first 5 of those days I felt hungry all the time and had low energy. One morning I couldn’t even function for a while. My trainer said this is an indication that the body is getting rid of stored toxins. All I know is that it sucked! Then, all of a sudden, on the 6th day I felt great! I was still eating the same limited diet but I had energy and wasn’t overly hungry throughout the day. I was amazed that things could change so quickly. I guess my body finally got rid of some of the yuck it had stored and/or I was getting used to the reduced calories and almost total lack of carbs. Now that my 7 days are up, I find myself choosing to continue the cleanse for another couple of days, mostly because I have specific food supplies for another couple days and I hate wasting food. But I’m happy to say that I go very willingly into those next few days.

The whole experience has been good. I learned a lot about how easy it is to include vegetables in a meal, how to prepare lean meats without oils and what to use to season foods besides salt.

I've enjoyed this whole 'rediscovering vegetables' so much that I will continue to eat more of them even when I’m done detoxing. My mother will be so happy!
